BANGALORE: Former Chief Justice of Supreme Court M N Venkatachalaiah has called upon students to follow the principles of Ramakrishna Paramhamsa and Swami Vivekanada. Addressing students after the distribution of scholarships instituted by North South Foundation (NSF) headquartered in Chicago, USA, at Vivekananada College on Dr Raj Kumar Road, he said, “Following the principles of Ramakrishna Paramhamsa and Vivekanada’s service to society, once you pass out and get into jobs, you should have the attitude of service in mind and helping the public in general.”On the basis of poverty and merit, around 60 students from various technical courses- pursuing professional degree courses such as Engineering, Medicine, Dentistry, Veterinary Science, Pharmacy, Agriculture or Nursing were provided the scholarships of up to Rs 12,000 per year and up to Rs 5,000 per year were given to Diploma students. Scholarships are administered by NSF India chapter coordinators in various cities. Currently NSF chapters are active in Bangalore, Hyderabad, Tanuku, Visakhapatnam, Guwahati, Patna, Kochi, Pune, Bhubaneswar, Patiala, Udaipur, Jodhpur, Chennai, Madurai, Nagercoil, Moradabad, Kolkata, Panchkula, Bhavnagar and Chandigarh.
