Only two candidates submitted their papers on the first day of filing of nominations for the April 10 Lok Sabha elections in Haryana. Both the nominations have been received from Faridabad parliamentary constituency, Haryana Chief Electoral Officer Shrikant Walgad said on Saturday.
He said Deepak Gaud of Akhil Bhartya Arakshan Virodhi Morcha and Sanjay Maurya, an Independent, filed their papers from the Faridabad Lok Sabha constituency. No other nomination was filed in the remaining nine Lok Sabha seats in the state. The next two days being holidays, no nomination papers will be accepted.
The process will resume on Tuesday, he said, and continue till March 22, scrutiny will take place the next day and withdrawal will take place on March 26 when the final picture of contestants will become known. Haryana has about 1.55 crore voters, including 71 lakh women. Polling will be held at 16,129 booths, including 11,644 in rural areas, from 7 am to 6 pm on April 10.
Around 75,000 polling staff, including 1,300 supervisory officers, would be on poll duty in the state, besides 66 companies of Central Para Military Forces for maintaining law and order. Of the 10 Lok Sabha seats in the state, Congress won nine in 2009 and Haryana Janhit Congress from Hisar constituency.
The constituencies represented by Congress are Ambala (SC), Kurukshetra, Sirsa, Karnal, Sonipat, Rohtak, Gurgaon, Bhiwani-Mahendargarh and Faridabad.
