New Delhi: The Delhi government’s “only crime” is that it works on health, education, power and water, Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said on Wednesday, hours after a team of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) raided the residence of Health Minister Satyendar Jain.
“CBI, Delhi Police, ED – all these agencies now have just one job. They all have to stop the work being done by the Delhi government. Just recently, Satyendar Jain had announced that the government would crack down on private hospitals that were overcharging patients. The private hospital lobby was scared after that was announced,” Sisodia said.
Accusing the Centre of being hand-in-glove with special interest lobbies, Sisodia said, “Whenever we crack down on the school mafia, power mafia, water tanker mafia or any other lobby, the central government starts getting active. Just four days ago, the police was at my house. Six months ago, the CBI was at my house. Our crime is that we are working on the health, education, power and water sectors of Delhi. Their power is that they have all these agencies. Modi ji celebrated the construction of 9 km of a highway. They can’t do anything themselves, so they send these agencies to halt our work.”
Sisodia said that after “repeated harassment” by the central government’s agencies, they were “used to” the treatment.
“Now we are used to getting harassed. Two days ago, the same CBI had to close a case against Satyendar Jain because they did not have a strong enough case against him. All he had done was ask his daughter to volunteer. The latest CBI raid is because he hired a creative design team for mohalla clinics. The same mohalla clinics are winning the praise of the NITI Aayog, but Modi Ji is sending the CBI after us for it. The central government’s politics is based on creating Hindu-Muslim divide, but the fabric of the nation is so strong that they will not succeed,” he said.
In the early hours of Wednesday, Jain had broken the news of the CBI raid on his house on Twitter. “CBI raids my house for hiring creative team by PWD. Professionals were hired for different projects. All were forced to leave by CBI. (sic)”
Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, too, tweeted on the raids and asked, “What does PM Modi want?”
