New Delhi: Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupathi met with contrasting results along with their respective partners in the men's doubles event of the $2.45 million Cincinnati Open tennis tournament at Ohio, USA.
Paes teamed up with Martin Damm of Czech Republic to advanced to the quarter-finals while Bhupathi and his American partner Justin Gimelstob were ousted in the second round of the tournament on Wednesday.
Paes-Damm, seeded seventh, defeated their unseeded opponents Lukas Dlouhy and Pavel Vizner of Czech Republic 6-3 6-3.
The Australian Open finallists, with 21-13 win-loss record this season, will now face Mark Knowles of Bahamas and Daniel Nestor of Canada for a place in the semi-finals en route to their maiden ATP Masters Series shield.
In the other match, Bhupathi and Gimelstob lost to sixth seeds Jonathan Erlich of Argentina and Andy Ram of Israel in three sets 6-7 (1/7) 7-5 4-10.
Paes and Bhupathi had won the title in 2001.
