Parking lot authorities fined Rs. 64k for missing motorbike

Coming to the aid of a man whose motorcycle was stolen from a railway parking yard here a year ago, the District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum (DCDRF) has ordered that the parking lot authorities compensate for the loss by paying up the cost of the motorcycle, besides for the mental agony suffered by its owner.

In all, the parking lot authorities were fined `64,000.

M Manivarman of Perumal Street, who was working at the Techno Park in Trivandrum, left for work on June 28, 2011 as usual after parking his Bullet motorcycle at the parking yard of the railway station in Kottar.

When he returned around 8.00 pm the same day, he found the motorcycle missing. On enquiring, the parking yard authorities had told him that it had gone missing. Shocked, he approached railway police, who directed him to the Kottar police station. The next day Manivarman lodged a complaint with the Kottar police. After waiting for long, Manivarman lodged a complaint with Kanyakumari Jilla Consumer Protection Centre.
