Paulose Mar Pachomios, Metropolitan of the Mavelikkara Diocese of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church, passed away at a private hospital here on Wednesday.
Mar Pachomios, 66, who was admitted to the hospital following liver-related ailments a week ago, breathed his last at 8.45 am.

Syrian Church head Catholicos Baselios Marthoma Paulose II and the other Metropolitans had visited Mar Pachomios at the hospital after his condition worsened.
Mar Pachomios had served as Assistant Metropolitan of the Angamaly and Idukki Dioceses. He had been heading the Mavelikkara diocese since its inception in 1992.
The Metropolitan’s body was taken to Bishops’ House, Mavelikkara, on Wednesday, where it will be placed for the people to pay their last respects till 9 am on Thursday.
En route to Mavelikkara, the body was taken to the Parumala Church for a prayer service.
MP Mourns Death
Jose K Mani MP has expressed his condolences on the demise of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church Mavelikkara Bishop Paulose Mar Pachomius Metropolitan. He said Mar Pachomius was a saviour of the poor and personified love.
His demise is an irreparable loss not only to the Church but to society as a whole, the MP added.
