KOCHI: A team of officials from the Kerala State Pollution Control Board on Wednesday conducted inspection at the Brahmapuram Solid Waste Treatment Plant.The fourmember team led by Kerala PCB chairman K Sajeevan inspected the plant as directed by the CM. The main aim of the inspection was to identify whether there were any environmental and health hazards owing to the piling up of waste in the existing plant that has stopped functioning. The officials will also look into the allegations that the existing plant was constructed violating the Municipal Act. The PCB chairman has also asked the Corporation officials to handover the technical details of the plant. The team will visit the Solid Waste Treatment Plant at Ukkadam, which was identified by the Corporation as the model for a new plant at Brahmapuram.Vigilance inquiryMeanwhile, the Youth Congress, on Wednesday staged a dharna in front of the Kochi Corporation office demanding a Vigilance probe into the alleged corruption in the construction of the existing plant at Brahmapuram.
