APCA on Tuesday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Penal Reforms International (PRI), a non-governmental organisation based in London that had a consultative status with the United Nations, to start the study programme for the prison officials from South India, Director of APCA M R Ahmed told Express.
“The study abroad programme will be a regular feature of the curriculum of the institute from January 2013. We will bear the expenditure of the training programme for the selected candidates,” said Ahmed.
APCA would send a team of eight officers in the ranks of Assistant Superintendent, Deputy Superintendent, Additional Superintendent and Superintendent led by an officer in the rank of Deputy Inspector General of Police (Prisons).
Three resource persons from PRI would come to APCA in the first week of January. “They will take week-long classes for the prison officers and select nine officers from the batch of 24 and take them to various prisons in the UK to study the good practices in those prisons, and try and replicate them here, ” Ahmed said.
