Mumbai: Ajmal Kasab, Pakistani terrorist sentenced to death in the Mumbai terror attack case, has got a new identity with the jail authorities labelling him as Qaidi No C-7096.
The number is allotted to maintain record of convicts and henceforth he would be referred as Qaidi No C-7096, jail sources said Friday.
Kasab has been placed in category 'C' prisons allotted to murder convicts. Those convicted for lesser offences upto three months imprisonment are allotted category 'A' while the convicts serving jail sentence of three months to five years are put in 'B' class.
Since Kasab has been given death penalty he would not have to work in jail. Those serving rigorous imprisonment are given carpentry work or asked to prepare food for other inmates for which they get a small amount as remuneration.
The only job assigned to Kasab is to wash his clothes as he does not have money left for laundry.
The 22-year-old Pakistani gunman, who came to Mumbai via sea route from Karachi along with nine members of Lashkar-e-Taiba to strike terror, feels lonely in jail, according to the sources.
"He has been eagerly waiting to meet his relatives and often asks the jail guards if anyone had come to meet him. Kasab spends most of the time in the cell sitting in a corner," they said.
Kasab usually gets up at seven in the morning and spends time in reading books and Quran. He also performs namaz five times a day, the sources said.
Meanwhile, preparations are in full swing to send the copy of 26/11 judgement along with all documents, affidavits and statements of witnesses to the Bombay High Court for confirmation of the death sentence awarded to Kasab.
The other two accused in the 26/11 case Faheem Ansari and Sabauddin Ahmed, who were acquitted by the trial court, continue to be in the Central prison at Arthur Road.
The Mumbai police would soon hand them over to Uttar Pradesh police as the duo is wanted in another case registered against them in that state.
