The Union Home Ministry has warned the Punjab government about the possible impact of the hunger strike by activist Surat Singh Khalsa.

The intelligence warning by the Centre, accessed by CNN-IBN, has warned the state government of attempts by radical groups to portray Surat Singh as a martyr and provoke tension.

Surat Singh Khalsa, 82, has been on a hunger strike for the last 10 months demanding the release of Sikhs serving life term in terror cases.

In the advisory, the Centre has cautioned the Punjab government to take care of Surat Singh Khalsa's health as his death could lead to a law and order situation in the state.

According to the advisory, the radicals may use the pictures of starving Surat Singh Khalsa to provoke tension in the state. The intelligence report refers to demonstrations in Canberra and Auckland in support of the veteran.
