Ten days after Rs 3,65,720 in cash was seized during raid on a border checkpost of the Transport Department at Makhupura in Jalore district, the Rajasthan Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) has registered a case against RTO inspector Om Prakash Choudhary and eight others.
Regional Transport Office (RTO) inspector Choudhary and the eight guards were on duty at the checkpost on Rajasthan-Gujarat border when the raid was conducted. The unaccounted amount was allegedly collected illegally from vehicles passing through the area, officials sources said.
"After preliminary investigation, we had last week sent our report to the ACB headquarter, where the FIR against Choudhary and eight guards, both government and private, has been registered," said acting-DIG (ACB) Narpat Singh Rathore.
During its preliminary investigation and searches at Choudhary's residence, the ACB has unearthed massive assets in disproportion to the known sources of his income.
This included a palatial bungalow, a huge expenditure in the wedding of his daughter, a fleet of luxurious SUVs, business partnerships and ownerships, a huge cache of gold and silver jewellery, all worth in crores apart from investment in property, insurance, stocks and bank and locker deposits.
According to Transport Department sources, Choudhary had been posted at the checkpost for the past one decade despite repeated complaints of illegal recovery from vehicles. His long posting was also in violation of the roster system.
