New Delhi: Bharatiya Janata Party general secretary, Rajnath Singh on Sunday said that he had not received any information of his selection as the next president of the BJP.
Singh, who is considered a strong contender for the post of BJP president, said L K Advani is the party's president and the election of the new party chief has not yet taken place.
About his meeting with former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Advani on Friday, Singh said he had met them to discuss the Nyay Yatra, which was being undertaken to protest the increasing rate of crime in Uttar Pradesh.
With Rajnath off the throne of succession, other BJP leaders are back in the race for the coveted post.
These include former party President M Venkaiah Naidu, who had resigned from the post after the party's poor performance in the last Lok Sabha election, BJP Deputy Leader Sushma Swaraj and BJP General Secretaries Pramod Mahajan and Arun Jaitley.
Meanwhile, sources from BJP and RSS say BJP has changed its stance as it does not want to shift focus from the Silver Jubilee celebrations, which begin in Mumbai on Monday.
