New Delhi: Following on the heels of the Ruchika Girhotra molestation scandal involving an ex-Haryana top cop, SPS Rathore, another case of an alleged molestor cop has come to light in Yamuna Nagar in Haryana.
Eight years on, charges have finally be filed against the former cop, IG Mahinder Singh Ahlawat.
Advocate Arvinder Kaur has filed an FIR against Ahlawat on charges of molestation and threatening her with dire consequences.
Arvinder alleges that she was molested by IG Mahinder in May 2002 after she went to the local police station to file a dowry case against her in-laws.
"Mahinder Singh Ahlawat was the SP in Yamuna Nagar in 2002 when I met him in regards to a dowry case. In the garb of the case, he sexually harassed me and said obscene things to me on the phone. I tried to lodge a case and I even went to the NHRC but since he is a senior officer I have got no justice so far," said Kaur.
She then went on a hunger strike and tried to commit suicide outside the Chief Minister's office after police took no action. This, even after a special investigation team was set up as per the Chief Minister's demand, but which filed charges under section 323 , 354 and 506 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), but the police took the same course of action as they did during Ruchika's case and no action was taken against the IG.
