Mumbai: There has been much discussion about the glitterati who received the Aishwarya Rai-Abhishek Bachchan wedding invite and those who did not. One person who got left out was director Ravi Chopra.
Superstar Amitabh Bachchan has always claimed Ravi Chopra is one of his favourite directors. Ravi is also fond of Bachchan, as B R Films got a new lease of life post Baghbaan.
Greatly heartened by the phenomenal success of the movie, Chopra had said in an earlier interview, “I will go on making movies with Big B till the Bachchan takes a decision to stop acting.”
When questioned about the reason, Ravi says, “How can I go to the wedding when I’m not invited? Yes, I would have liked to be there. Maybe more of Abhishek’s friends were invited and not Amitji’s.” But when reminded about the friends of Big B who were present, Chopra added diplomatically, “I have no hard feelings.”
Very few people know Bachchan’s role was initially offered to veteran actor Dilip Kumar, who had given consent.
However, Dilip was keeping indifferent health so the launch of the film kept getting postponed.
Finally, the film was shelved. But the Bachchan came to the director’s rescue and signed Baghbaan. The rest as they say is history.
We wonder at the reason for this glaring omission. It could be Baabul’s dismal performance at the box-office or Bachchan’s long-term friendship with Yash Chopra. Or it could just be the recent closeness between SRK and Ravi Chopra?
