CHENNAI: The State Crime Branch-CID on Sunday formally announced the arrest of 58-year-old retired army engineer Lt Col K Ramaraj for killing teenager K Dilshan on July, and the recovery of the murder weapon — US Springfield rifle of .30 calibre — which the accused person had allegedly thrown into the Cooum river.Ramaraj, a native of Madurai, was an assistant engineer with the Corps of Electrical and Mechanical Engineers and had retired on April 30, said R Sekar ADGP, CB-CID. He was given a three-month extension to vacate his apartment at the Officers’ Enclave on Flagstaff Road. He had acquired the imported rifle in 2004, when he was posted in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, and renewed its licence until 2008.Subsequent to his posting in Chennai, Ramaraj submitted an application to the suburban police for renewal of the licence, which was pending before the commissionerate.“It was a personal weapon and Ramaraj did not tell the Army about it,” the CB-CID chief said.
