BANGALORE:  Police shot and injured two robbers in Hennur late Monday night after a gang of five cornered robbers attacked the police team. The injured robbers, who  were arrested, have been identified as Ramesh (27) and Harivu Murali (22), both natives of Katpadi in Tamil Nadu, and have been admitted to Ambedkar Medical College with bullet injuries in their legs.According to police, the robbers barged into the house of Jayanth Hiryur at Shree Apartments on Malleswaram 13th Cross on Monday and threatened a woman and her two sons Yashawanth (39) and Sathyavrath (33) at knife point. After gagging them, they escaped with 200 grams of gold jewels, 500 grams of silver ornaments, two sandalwood pieces and some foreign currency worth Rs 10 lakh. Neighbours later freed the victims, who filed a complaint with Malleswaram police.“Around 10.30 pm, Hennur police, who were on patrol on Agara Road, noticed some people moving suspiciously. When constables Ramesh and Kenchappa Kollur tried to catch them, the miscreants attacked them with daggers and stones and hid in the bushes. When inspector Prabhakar and constables Ramesh Naik and Madhu Kumar were combing the bushes, the miscreants attacked and injured them. In an act of self defence, Prabhakar opened fire injuring two robbers,” said Police Commissioner B G Jyothiprakash Mirji.
