In an extraordinary act of courage, an 18-year old girl from Agra saved the lives of four drowning boys. On September 17, during the Ganesh Visarjan at Bateshwar Rani Ghat in Agra, Mohini Goswami saw four young boys in the verge of drowning in the Yamuna River. Without taking a moment, Goswami jumped in to save them.
Her act of bravery was captured by bystanders on camera at the ghat and the video was shared widely. Goswami has been receiving widespread praise online since then.
According to reports, while people were watching the young guys struggling in the Yamuna waters helplessly, Mohini, who sells puja material at the ghat, risked her life to save the boys.
Mohini Honoured For Her Heroism
Speaking to Local-18, Mohini Goswami shared that she saw four young boys drowning in the Yamuna and rescued all of them. Temple manager Ajay Bhadauria, along with Nattilal Goswami, and priest Rakesh Vajpayee praised Mohini for her remarkable bravery. The temple committee awarded her with Rs 200 as an act of appreciation. Eyewitnesses also described Mohini’s act as truly commendable.
Among the four young boys, two, identified as Akash and Himalaya, fled the scene shortly after being saved. Both of them hailed from Firozabad.
What Was The Incident?
The incident took place around 5 PM on Tuesday. According to the people at the ghat, Bateshwar Ghat was full of devotees for the Ganesh Visarjan. Akash (19), Himalaya (17) and two of their friends had stepped into the Yamuna river with the idol. However, they lost their balance and started drowning. Hearing people shouting, Mohini hurled herself into the river and rescued all of them, one after the other.
According to sources, Mohini has been selling puja material at the ghat for many years. She runs a small shop selling various puja items to devotees who visit Bateshwar Bhole Baba and take a dip in the Yamuna.
Recently, a similar incident took plane in Kanpur, when an IAS officer was drowning in the Ganga. However, local divers demanded Rs 10,000 to save his life. Mohini Goswami’s brave and selfless act has set an example to those divers.
