Rs 60 crore to rejuvenate public libraries

CHENNAI: The State has earmarked Rs 60 crore to rejuvenate public libraries, said C Ve Shanmugam, Minister for School Education, here on Thursday. Distributing the Best Libararian Awards at an event organised to mark the 44th National Library Week at Deva Neya Pavanar District Cental Library, he said  plans are on the anvil to rejuvenate libraries in the State that had become defunct since 2009.“As announced by Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa during the school education supplementary budget, `25 crore had been allotted to buy books, while an equivalent amount will be spent on constructing new buildings for public libraries.
