THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Reminding youths of their duty to provide support and care to older people, the Kerala Social Security Mission (KSSM) has launched ‘Sallapam’, a programme to provide entertainment to senior citizens. Minister for Social Welfare M K Muneer inaugurated the programme on Wednesday. Inmates of old age homes, under the KSSM, attended the programme.They spent time  on Museum premises and Zoo. Ganamela and lunch were also arranged for the senior citizens.“Now, youth spend less time with their grandparents,” Muneer said. He reminded the youth to provide support and entertainment to their grandparents. He also sang the song ‘suruma ezhutiya mizhikale’ for the senior citizens. Ministers A P Anilkumar and V S Sivakumar attended the function. Actors Madhu, Raghavan and Sona Nair also spoke at the function. Inmates of Chakkai Old Age Home, Poojappura Old Age Home, Muthunayaka and Karunyavisanthi Nilayam attended the programme. Muneer distributed new year gifts to the inmates of the old-age homes. ‘Sallapam’ aims at providing entertainment to the senior citizens by taking them for outings. The programme was organised with the support of the Directorate of Museum and Zoos. The KSSM had launched a slew of programmes for the senior citizens such as ‘Vayomitram’,  ‘Vayogana Vandanam’ and ‘Vayomahatmyam’.
