Samjhauta blasts: Pak national testifies
A Pakistani passenger who was traveling on the Samjhauta Express gave a statement to a magistrate in Panipat.

New Delhi: A Pakistani passenger who was traveling on the ill-fated Samjhauta Express when the blasts occurred gave a statement to a magistrate in Panipat on Wednesday.

Usman Mohammed, a key eye witness in the case, claimed to have thrown away a suitcase containing IED in the Samjhauta Express on Sunday night.

In a six-page statement, he told the magistrate that four people had got off the train before the blasts ripped through the compartments killing 68 people. Mohammed hails from Karachi and is now an official witness under section 164 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC).

The Haryana Police had detained him for questioning because he threw out one of the suitcases laden with explosives out of the coach. He was also in the compartment of the first blast.

Police sources say that the 65-year-old who is now a a prosecution witness was fairly cooperative during the investigations. On Wednesday morning, Mohammed was handed over to Pakistani officials after a medical check-up and is expected to leave for home very soon.
