Hyderabad, New Delhi: Although Sania Mirza's decision of opting out of the Banglore Open has upset her fans, there are many young men and women across the country who have supported the tennis ace's decision.
Her fans also agree that Sania is in the right. After all, the tennis star has been the target of so many controversies.
"She is completely justified,” says a fan, Simran. But Simran’s reasons ring a jarring note.
“We are not a sporting country," she points out.
Aqsa corroborates this: "We are an unsporting nation. We don't give sportspersons the respect they deserve."
Sania and controversy have gone hand in hand since the Hyderabad girl shot to fame with her exploits on the tennis courts.
There are many, though, who are outright angered by Sania’s decision.
"If you don’t want to play, then quit sports itself. I will support your decision if u quit the game," says Hyderabad resident, Syed Khursheed Ahmed.
Meanwhile, those fans for who were waiting for Sania to grace an Indian tournament are clearly unhappy.
“We want to say play in India. We want to learn, you are our icon,” says a young tennis player, Alokika.
"We want her to play in India. We want to see her game and learn from that," explains another tennis enthusiast, Aditya.
Sania’s supporters, though unhappy with her decision to play for the country but not in it, are rallying behind her simply because someone somewhere might take offence to Sania's actions off the court and not on it.
