Mumbai: In a major breakthrough in Sheena Bora's murder case, Indrani Mukerjea's ex-husband Sanjeev Khanna has confessed to his complicity in the crime, said Mumbai Police Commissioner Rakesh Maria on Friday.
Briefing reporters after interrogating Indrani, Sanjeev, former Star TV CEO Peter Mukerjea and Sheena's brother Mikhail, Maria said, "This morning we recovered skeletal remains of Sheena Bora from Raigad district and will be dispatched for DNA test tomorrow. We recovered Sheena Bora's passport from Dehradun which negates the theory that Sheena went to the US. Sanjeev Khanna has confessed to his complicity in the crime."
Maria added that in the interrogation, Mikhail gave them some leads in the case. Mikhail also produced some evidence at the Khar police station in connection with the murder mystery.
Earlier, senior journalist Vir Sanghvi, who is the former CEO of INX Media, owned by Indrani Mukherjea, made some startling claims that make the Sheena Bora murder case murkier. According to the senior journalist, Indrani had once told a group of people that her step-father had molested her, following which she had left her house.
Speaking to India Today, Sanghvi further said that Indrani had once introduced Sheena as her step-sister from the same step-father.
Sources said that the Mumbai police would probe Indrani's former husband Sanjeev Khanna's finances as he is said to have profited financially after the murder. He has been sent to police custody till August 31.
Meanwhile, sources in the police said that Indrani was not cooperating in the investigation. Indrani, her driver Shyam Rai and ex-husband Sanjeev Khanna were questioned separately by the police.
JJ Hospital in Mumbai, which had conducted the autopsy of Sheena Bora, also handed over to the police samples of bones and teeth received back in May 2012, after the crime was committed allegedly by Indrani and her ex-husband.
