Nanda got a British passport when he was seven.

New Delhi: Sanjeev Nanda, who has been convicted for mowing down six, including three policemen, under his BMW car is a holder of British passport. But Nanda did not seek any help from the British High Commission in India.

"British High Commission is not involved anywhere in the case because Nanda did not approach us for any kind of legal support or help," Assistant Press and Communications Officer at the British High Commission Upendra Singh says.

"We would have certainly offered him our services if he had asked for any," Singh adds.

The fact that Nanda is a British citizen was revealed during the course of the investigation. Nanda acquired the citizenship through his mother who is a British national and holds a British passport.

“Sanjeev's mother , Renu Nanda, is a British national and when Sanjeev was seven years old, she acquired a British passport for him too,” Ramesh Gupta, counsel for Nanda, was quoted by a news agency as saying.
