Panaji: Fiona Mackeown, mother of slain teenager Scarlett Eden Keeling, will depose before a Goa court on July 30 in connection with the death of her daughter at Anjuna beach near here in 2008.

The British teenager's mother, who launched a campaign seeking justice for her daughter, has been summoned by the Goa Children's Court to testify before it. "Fiona will arrive in India to assist the court in prosecution. She will give all the information she has," her lawyer Vikram Verma said.

Scarlett's bruised corpse was found on Anjuna beach in Goa in February 2008 following which two locals were arrested. The accused - Samson D'Souza and Placido Carvalho - were booked for drugging, raping and leaving the teenage girl to die on the shore.

The case was handed over to CBI after Fiona expressed doubts over the probe, initially carried out by Goa police. She had exposed botched-up police investigation the case, alleging that Scarlett was a victim of drug mafia in the coastal state.

CBI Counsel S R Rivonkar said Fiona's presence is important for the prosecution. The Children's Court has examined almost 18 witnesses till now, including Scarlett's boyfriend Julio Lobo, crucial witness Murli Sagar and policemen in the case.

Sagar, a youth from Mumbai working at the beach shack adjacent to the spot where Scarlett's body was found, had identified both the accused in the court.
