Sources said that sending emails was not a signature HuJI move, neither was using a shortened name.

New Delhi: Intelligence sources say that they are still verifying the authenticity of an e-mail which was reportedly sent by the Harkat-ul Jehad al Islami (HuJI), claiming responsibility for the blast at Delhi High Court on Wednesday. The mail was sent from this id: [email protected] to two media houses.

Sources said that sending an e-mail was not a signature HuJI move, neither was using a shortened name.

They also claimed that any terror attack linked to HuJI inside India, till now, has been carried out by HuJI operatives from Bangladesh.

National Investigation Agency Chief SC Sinha on Wednesday said that the mail reportedly sent by HuJI was being probed. He added that investigations were on and he could not say who was responsible for such an attack.

However, over the last two and half years, since Sheikh Hasina took over as the Prime Minister of Bangladesh, HuJI operative capabilities have been hampered significantly. Nearly 200 top HuJI cadres have been either arrested or neutralised.

Mohammad Yahia, HuJI boss in Bangladesh, was arrested last month. In April this year, one of the HuJI founders, Sheikh Farid, a man who formed HuJI after training with Osama Bin Laden in Afghanistan, was also arrested. His arrest came immediately after the rapid action battalion caught his deputy Mohamamd Abdul Hannan.

In 2009, Maulana Sheikh Abdus Salam, another founder member of HuJI was also arrested. All of them are charged with multiple assassination attempts on Sheikh Hasina's life.

Indian intelligence agencies have been coordinating very closely with their Bangladeshi counterparts since Hasina came to power.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who ironically in Bangladesh at the time of the blast, was sealing the new found friendship with a goodwill visit. Till now there has been no input coming in from Dhaka confirming a HuJI link to the blast.
