BHUBANESWAR: A special package for people desiring to visit Puri to witness the annual Rath Yatra this year has been announced by the Orissa Tourism Development Corporation. The corporation, for the first time, has included Berhampur and Rourkela besides the regularly covered areas of Bhubaneswar, Cuttack and Sambalpur. Designed for both budget and high-end tourists, the package includes transportation, accommodation and food. While the high-end tourists will be put up at Hotel Toshali Sands for two nights and three days, the budget visitors will be accommodated in Konark Yatri Nivas and Puri Pantha Nivas. Apart from the nine-day Rath Yatra, the package includes sightseeing trips to Konark Sun Temple, ASI Museum, Chandrabhaga beach, Satapada, cruising in Chilika lake and a visit to Rajhans island. Addressing mediapersons here on Thursday, OTDC Chairman Jyotiskar Mohapatra said special arrangements had been made for witnessing the Rath Yatra too. “Around 120 seats have been booked for roof-top viewing of the Car festival at Hotel Grand Central through a private agency,” he said. From next year, the number of seats for roof-top viewing will be increased to 300. On the future plans, he said OTDC was mulling booking of the roof-top of the temple office for the next year Rath Yatra as most of the buildings along the Grand Road had been declared unsafe. Balasore, Jeypore and Koraput would also be included in the next year’s package besides introducing a 15-day heritage package for NROs. “The decision has been taken on popular demand by Oriyas residing across the globe,” said Mohapatra.
