KOZHIKODE: The CPM will organise National and State athletic meets, in connection with their 20th Party Congress, in March.A national-level marathon with a prize money of more than Rs 2.5 lakh will also be conducted.The national meet will feature athletes from all over the country competing in 11 events with the individual champion taking home Rs 25,000 while the next two placeholders will get Rs 15,000 and Rs 10,000, respectively. To participate in the meet, an athlete should have held at least sixth position in either a state meet organised by an athletic association of any state, an inter-collegiate athletic meet organised by a recognised university or a school meet organised by any state school association.The state meet too will feature 11 events with the first prize winner taking home Rs 10,000, the second prize winner Rs 5,000 and the third prize winner getting Rs 2,000. To participate in the meet, an athlete should have finished third or higher at either a district-level athletic meet organised by a district athletic association in Kerala or in a district school athletic meet organised by a revenue district school association of Kerala.Two separate marathon events, one each for men and women will be held with the men required to run 42.195km while the women will have to cover 21km. The first prize winners of the men’s and women’s events will receive `1 lakh and Rs 50,000, respectively. Participants will have to produce a medical certificate declaring them fit to compete before they are allowed to enter the marathon. Entries for all athletic events will be received till March 10.A photography contest will also be held in connection with the event on the theme ‘Traditional Crafts’. The first prize will contain a purse of Rs 10,000. Contestants should send in three 18.12 sized copies of their entries to the Convener, Arts and Cultural Committee, Welcoming Committee Office, 20th Party Congress, Bank Road, Kozhikode 1, by February 20.
