Stir after drum beat stopped

Members of BJP and Hindu Munnani who participated in a Vinayagar Chathurthi procession in Ambur town on Saturday, staged a road roko along Asanampet Road for 10 minutes. They protested after police forced a group of drummers to stop beating the drums, just a few hundred metres away from the immersion point -- Anaimadugu check dam.

The protestors had become agitated when the police personnel had asked the drummers to stop beating the drums when the procession, with around 25 Ganesha idols reached Reddy Thoppu area about 5.30 pm.

However, they withdrew the protest after deputy superintendent of police of Ambur E Vijay Kumar pacified them.

The five-kilometre procession started from Renukambal Koil in A Kaspa and passed through many sensitive areas.
