Students forced to sit on floor and take board exams in hi-tech Andhra Pradesh

Hyderabad: Students in a government school in Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh were forced to sit on the floor and take their Class 10 board examination. There were no benches, desk, fans or drinking water at some centres despite Rs 15,000 crore being allocated for school education in the 2015-16 state budget.

While Global Positioning Systems are being used by the authorities to keep a tab on examination centres and ensure no malpractices take place, the officials failed to provide basic amenities to students at several schools.

There are many schools in rural areas of Andhra Pradesh where there are no desks, benches, fans and drinking water. In the 2016-17 Budget about Rs 17,000 crore has been allocated for school education and improvement of infrastructure for the same.

The class 10 board examinations started on March 21 in in Andhra Pradesh. A total of 6,57,595 students are appearing for the exams in the state across 13 districts and there are over 3,000 centres.
