TIRUPUR: About 200 students of the Government Higher Secondary School at Perundholuvu near Pongalur besieged the District Collectorate here on Wednesday demanding that teachers be appointed at the school.More than 1,000 students are studying in the school from Standard VI to Plus Two. In all, at least 40 teachers are required. “However, only 25 teachers were working here. Of this, 16 teachers got transfer to other schools during the recent transfer counselling. So just nine teachers are available now,” they said.“Already the classes began after a month’s delay due to problems related to the implementation of the Uniform System of Education. We wrote the quarterly examinations without proper preparation. After the holidays, the classes are yet to resume and our marks are also not released due to the shortage of teachers for evaluating the answer papers,” they added. The students alleged that the headmaster did not take any action to solve the problem. So they laid siege to the Collectorate. They also submitted a petition to the district administration and sought immediate action. Following the assurance from the officials, the students returned to the school.
