The CPI(ML) Liberation on Tuesday warned other Left parties, CPI(M) and CPI, against forming a third front with the JD(U) for the Lok Sabha polls and advised them to consider the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).

"It will turn out to be a suicidal step for CPI(M) and CPI if they try to form a front with JD(U) for the Lok Sabha polls given its long association with the BJP-led NDA," CPI(M-L)Liberation general secretary Dipankar Bhattacharya told reporters. But I would suggest them to consider the AAP which is getting support from people in several states, he suggested.

Recalling that JD(U) leader Nitish Kumar had backed out after agreeing on an alliance with the then Samata Party soon after he parted ways from Lalu Prasad, Bhattacharya said the strong anti-incumbency factor presently working against Kumar in Bihar would not help the Left parties in the polls.

He also alleged that even other regional parties were not trustworthy for an alliance and under the present scenario the Left parties' bid to form a coalition with them would have disastrous consequences in the general elections.

Citing examples of the Akhilesh Yadav government in UP and the BJD government in Odisha, which were facing wrath of the people on the Muzaffarnagar riots and land acquisition issues, Bhattacharya wondered as to how the broad alliance of such regional parties will provide a viable alternative to the Congress and BJP-led alliances at the national level.

There has to be some ideological and political convergence among the Communist and regional parties for such a third front to work on the ground, but it did not appear so in the case of constituents of the proposed front, he said.

On his party's strategy for the general elections, he said that the CPI(ML) Liberation would put up over 60 candidates including 22 in Bihar.
