CHENNAI: T Nagar MLA V P Kalairajan on Saturday assured the local residents that all of their civic grievances would be dealt with in a time bound manner. Addressing residents during a programme jointly organised by Kodambakkam Exnora Women Guild, Sakthi Nagar Civic Exnora and Anna Park Walkers’ Exnora here, Kalairajan said, “Sitting with the officials concerned, we will redress the issues, that too within a time frame.”Kalairajan also assured the local residents that their major longstanding grievances would be brought to the knowledge of Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa for speedy and quick disposal.During the public grievance meet, Meenakshi of the Kodambakkam Exnora Womens Guild raised several civic issues like encroachments, illegal parking on the streets and indiscriminate dumping of garbage. She appealed to the local MLA Kalairajan to take firm steps to address these.Besides raising the issue of poor condition of conservancy in Kodambakkam zone, Meenakshi also appealed to the MLA to throw open the partially completed Rangarajapuram Flyover to traffic, which was constructed to ease traffic in the locality.Responding to her, Yethukula Rao, Zonal Officer- Zone 8 in the Chennai Corporation, said that garbage collection and all conservancy operations would be streamlined once the new contractor stepped in from January next year. He also announced that the civic body was floating a global tender next week to select Neel Metal Fanalca’s successor.Replying to residents’ queries on erratic drinking water supply, a Metro Water official said that they have rectified the pressure issue with the continuous supply of drinking water from Veeranam Lake.The Metro Water official also appealed to the residents who were attending the grievance meet to improve their rain water harvesting (RWH) facilities to recharge ground water.Responding to the prevailing erratic supply of power in the area raised by the residents, an official from TNEB said that the issue would be solved once a dedicated sub-station for Kodambakkam was installed.At the end, Kalairajan asked the organisers to plan another such meeting after two months to take stock of the effectiveness of public grievance meetings.
