Tamil Sangams join protest

Various Tamil associations threw their weight behind the protests against the release of water to Tamil Nadu, in Mysore on Wednesday.

Members of the Mysore Tamil Sangam, Vaniyar Sangam and others under the banner of the Karnataka Tamil Sangam Federation took out a silent march from Kote Anjaneya Swamy temple to the Deputy Commissioner’s office, holding placards and banners.

In a memorandum submitted to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh through the DC, Federation president K Pukazhendi said the monsoon failure is creating animosity between the people of the two states. “Many unscrupulous elements exploited the opportunity for their vested interests and to gain cheap popularity. An expert committee must be deputed to analyse the situation and recommend alternatives to decide a final methodology of distribution amicably,” Pukazhendi said.
