Tata Sustainability Group launched a community welfare programme involving its employees to mark the 175th birth anniversary of the conglomerate's founder Jamsetji Tata in the steel city in Jamshedpur on Monday.
Tata Volunteering Week is the first initiative under the Tata Engage programme. Tata Engage is a volunteering programme that aims to encourage the group's employees around the globe to get involved in community welfare.
The volunteering week is a group-wide initiative with an objective to sensitise Tata Group employees towards social causes, encourage them to get involved and provide them the opportunity to give their time and skills in helping the community. During the week, Tata Group companies will create volunteering opportunities that will focus on children and women.
A book titled 'Tata Engage' was also launched in the presence of the company's senior executives, including Group Chairman Cyrus Mistry and Tata Steel Managing Director TV Narendran. Appreciating the steel city of Jamshedpur as one of the best planned cities with world class facilities, Mistry said the company would continue to maintain Jamshedpur, making it set an example as the best green and clean city of the country.
