Tax collection drive: Corporation nets 27 lakh

KOCHI: The second phase of the tax collection drive initiated by the Kochi Corporation on Monday recorded a collection of Rs 27 lakh. According to an official with the Corporation’s Revenue Department, the civic body is planning to intensify the drive in the coming days and expects to achieve the set target of Rs100 crore through tax collection before March 2012.Earlier, the second phase of tax collection drive was officially launched by Mayor Tony Chammany at a function held at the NSS Hall, Vennala. The tax collection drive will be taken up in the entire 74 divisions of the corporation and special tax collection counters will be set up for tax defaulters in all the major zones of the corporation. Last year, the corporation had initiated a similar drive in November 2011 and had collected Rs 45 crore.
