HYDERABAD: Telugu Desam Party (TDP) corporators of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) have demanded that Mayor Banda Karthika Reddy convene a special general body meeting to discuss the proposal of merging 30 surrounding villages with GHMC.In a representation submitted to chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy, TDP floor leader in GHMC Singireddy Srinivas Reddy said that at a time when GHMC is facing acute financial crisis and is unable to cater to the civic needs of the citizens, the proposal to merge the 30 villages is unfortunate. He said that sanitation and roads are in a bad condition, drains have not been widened as necessary due to which streets get inundated with even a slight rainfall and lack of sewerage lines in city outskirts is resulting in breeding of mosquitoes resulting in spread of malaria and dengue.“When GHMC is not able to cater to the needs of erstwhile Municipal Corporation of Hyderabad, how can it cater to the needs of 30 more villages,” he asked. It may be recalled that the Mayor had presented a list of 30 villages to the chief minister asking for permission to merge with GHMC.The villages include Kothapet, Venkatapur, Boduppal, Balapur, Nizampet, Bachupally, Jalpalli, Almasguda, Meerpet, Badangpet etc.
