Nara Lokesh Naidu, Telugu Desam Party (TDP) general secretary and son of party chief N Chandrababu Naidu, alleged that the Jagan Mohan Reddy-led YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) government used Pegasus to tap phones on TDP leaders.
He claimed that there were signs indicating that the previous administration procured Pegasus through unofficial means and operated it from a location outside the state.
Lokesh further revealed that he and his father were targeted twice, receiving alerts on their mobile phones.
“I have been targeted twice, once during my Yuva Galam yatra in March 2023 and once this April during campaigning. We both received the alerts from Apple. We suspect that Pegasus was used by the Jagan government to tap our phones,” Lokesh Naidu disclosed in an interview with The Indian Express.
The TDP also alleged that the Jagan government attempted to destroy evidence in certain offices as the electoral outcome became apparent, suggesting that a police investigation would reveal the extent of tampering.
Meanwhile, Andhra Pradesh CM-designate N Chandrababu Naidu has requested a report from the Director General of Police (DGP) regarding the alleged use of the spyware.
These accusations surface in the wake of a phone tapping scandal during the Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS) regime in Telangana, where officials from the Special Intelligence Bureau (SIB) purportedly intercepted communications and conducted electronic surveillance on opposition political figures and activists.
Former Deputy Commissioner of Police (Task Force, Hyderabad City) P Radhakishan Rao has reportedly admitted to involvement in phone tapping activities within the Telangana SIB during the BRS government’s tenure, according to police sources.
