Techie is Makkal Sakthi candidate for Mayor

CHENNAI: After making a debut in recent assembly elections, Lok Satta party  rechristened in Tamil as Makkal Sakthi, a new party comprising youngsters, software professionals and social activists, is planning to make an impact in the local body elections.Addressing a press conference to release the manifesto of the party and introducing the candidates, the founder of the Lok Satta party and a former bureaucrat Jayaprakash Narayan said that 32 candidates will be contesting the local body polls from Kovai, Erode, Chennai, Chitalapakam, Pallavaram and Cumbum. He also introduced Jagadeeshwaran, a software professional, who is contesting for the post of Mayor. Similarly, the party has also announced Vijayanand and Sangamitharai as mayor candidates for Kovai and Erode.Jayaprakash said the party’s main focus is on decentralisation of power. He said wards should be locally managed by ward committees and they should be given more power and funds.The manifesto focuses on traffic management, public toilets, proper resettlement of people during major projects, put to proper use the funds collected as elementary education tax, better healthcare in corporation hospitals, abolish manual scavenging, building parks and libraries besides decentralisation of power in local bodies. “We will also be launching a fight against corruption by focusing on transparency through e-governance besides public grievance redressal mechanism, said techie turned politician Senthil Armugam.
