CHENNAI: The High Court on Friday dismissed two petitions seeking ban on the elephant rejuvenation camp Organised in Mudumalai.According to an official release, the camp for temple and private elephants was introduced by Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa in 2003 when the toils of the pachyderms were brought to her knowledge. Since the mammals were not provided adequate rest and were being stabled in uneven hard surface, they started to disturb the public.  Therefore, these camps were organised by the HR&CE with the support of Forest Department at Theppakad in Mudumalai. The camps ensured proper rest, nutritious food, individual care and attention for the animals. As per the orders, the camps saw 55 Elephants taking part in 2003 for 30 days and 65 taking part for 48 days in 2004 and 63 for the same period in the next year.  The camp will be organised for 45 temple elephants for 48 days from December 14 at Theppakad Mudumalai Elephant Sanctuary.
