Who doesn’t love good food, especially every day? Sometimes, to discover the best cuisine, one must explore places they’ve never been before. Local18 Tamil recently discovered a hidden gem in Tamil Nadu: an egg shop that serves hundreds of varieties of food.
According to Local18, the shop has been in business for around 15 years. It offers such an extensive variety of egg dishes that, if someone were to try every item on the menu, it would take them a year to do so. However, offering so many options does not necessarily mean the owner earns a great deal. The highest-priced dish is Rs 80.
The shop’s owner, Chef Meenakshi Kumar, spoke to Local18, providing more insight into her business and what customers can expect. She shared, “I own Vijayalakshmi’s Egg Shop. I offer 221 varieties of egg dishes at Chetty Street Junction in Coimbatore on Vaishali Street.” She also revealed her plans, “Soon, I will offer 365 varieties of egg dishes.”
Meenakshi explained that she came to Coimbatore in 1982 and grew up in Madurai. Before starting her own food business, she worked in a gold workshop. However, the job didn’t pay well, so she decided to change careers. Describing her current venture, Meenakshi said it is “playful.” Reflecting on her previous work, she mentioned that she used to make jhumkis (traditional earrings).
The prices at her shop range from Rs 15 to Rs 80. The shop operates daily from 5:30 pm to 10:30 pm, according to Local18. The menu includes a wide range of dishes such as egg chintamani, egg sukka, egg chilli, masala pulpayal, mushroom chintamani, chintamani parotta omelette, tukka parotta omelette, kaathu egg porial, nadu egg pulpayal, garlic mixer, malli mixer, and more.
