New Delhi: Ask Sarvar Bali and she will tell you that the Board exams are no child's play and this year there is the added pressure of having to attempt a new type of question paper based on the 2005 national curriculum framework.

Sarvar says, "I am prepared, but you never know what question they might ask, so I'm a bit nervous."

And she's not the only one. Most of the more than 13 lakh students who are appearing for their Class 10 and Class 12 Boards this year are a bit jittery.

Twenty per cent of the question papers in all subjects from this year on will assess a student's HOTS — Higher Order Thinking Skills.

These questions will measure a student's ability to analyse and reason information and essentially use their brains.

Ten per cent of the questions will be very short answer questions.

CBSE Chairman Askok Ganguly says, "This will dissuade rote learning."

If you have any queries regarding the new format of the Board paper, you can always log on to the CBSE website — www.cbse.nic.in — where there are sample papers.

The exams begin on March 1, but don't lose hope if you don't clear your exams in one go, for now students will have five chances to clear their compartment papers.

What's your reaction?
