Docs perform 5-hr surgery; condition stable

Tenzin Dagyal, who was stabbed by unidentified youth in the city on Tuesday evening, underwent a surgery to remove the triangular edged dagger which had pierced his lower chest from the back. His condition is said to be stable.

A team of doctors, led by Dr Dharmendra, operated for more than five hours and put him on the ventilator.

Tenzin was taken to hospital after  unidentified miscreants stabbed him near a hotel on Dhanvantari Road, a stone’s throw from Devaraja Police station. Investigating officers said the motive for the attack is not yet, however it is said that Tenzin has given a statement to the police.

Meanwhile, Kamichu, a monk and uncle of the Tenzin, who is taking care of him is unable to provide any information to the police due to language barrier.

Devaraja Station Inspector Shanthamallappa said Tenzin is studying in second PU in Kushalnagar and was staying alone. His parents, who are settled in Mundgod Tibetan Settlement in Uttara Kannada District are expected to arrive in city soon.

He denied that the accused would have stabbed Tenzin mistaking him to be from  Northeast.

A case has been registered following a complaint filed by Sub Inspector B Basavaraju of Devaraja Station, he said.

According to Dr Geetha Avadhani, Dean and Director, MMC&RI, about a foot-long dagger, that looked like a  triangular edged knife was stabbed from back. The weapon had come out two inches from lower chest and there was tear in both larger as well as smaller intestines besides there were scratches on the left side of the kidney. Since there was lot of bleeding in intestine, “colostomy” was performed and three bottles of blood was infused. She said that Dr Dharmendra, Surgery General, is taking care of Tenzin. Meanwhile, a constable has been posted outside Tenzin’s ward.
