CHENNAI: The AIADMK government should strongly raise its voice against the Centre’s move to conduct a common entrance test for all undergraduate courses, including arts and sciences, from 2013, PMK founder S Ramadoss said here on Saturday. Strongly condemning the statement of Union Human Resources Development Minister Kapil Sibal on the proposed test, Ramadoss said the move would come in the way of the higher education dreams of students hailing from oppressed classes. The PMK founder said, while the percentage of the students having opportunity for higher education even in smaller countries stood at 30 per cent, in India, it stood just at 12.5 per cent. This is a biggest social injustice, he said. “Ever since Sibal became the Union Minister for Human Resources Development, he had been taking steps to snatch away the opportunities for oppressed sections of the society... The idea of the Minister would drastically reduce the number of students moving towards higher education,” he said.Sibal has been trying to “snatch away Education from the Concurrent List to Union List,” he said and urged the State government to oppose the move.Meanwhile, in another statement, Ramadoss welcomed the announcement of Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa to transform the new Secretariat complex to a multi-super specialty hospital on the lines of the AIIMS. Ramadoss said he had already suggested such a plan to the government.
