HYDERABAD: The past one month has seen a flurry of activity happening around the city with end of season sales, clearance sales, coming of season sales and so on. Exhibitions are dozen to a plenty with designers and organisers coming together to widen the horizons. Hanisha Devi, who started Mayees, a clothes store in Sri Nagar, turned to exhibitions to attract the market. This Designer-turned-organiser has hosted mayees Exhibition, that is currently on at Taj Krishna. Speaking about Mayees and its association with Hyderabad, she said. “I’ve been in this business for the past two years. About a one and a half years ago I started having exhibitions in the city. In a year I’ve conducted about six exhibitions while also expanding to Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Nellore and Coimbatore.” The 32-year old entrepreneur loves different textures, but her favourite material is cotton. Says the designer who hails from Vijayawada, “I enjoy working with cotton. Especially in bright colours. Personally lighter shades are my favourite. But a lot of my customers prefer darker shades.” Devi’s outlet at Sri Nagar mostly concentrates on children’s clothing, her age group ranging from one to 20 years. Ask her why, she explains, “When I used to go shopping for my daughter, I could never find anything satisfying. Since I had an inclination towards to designing and clothes, I thought why not?” Mayees sources their material from all over the state like Vijayawada and even Coimbatore. Devi redesigns the garments in some cases. Talking about the market in Hyderabad, Devi opines, “Right now there are so many exhibitions happening. So there is a huge dip in walk-ins. People actually think twice about visiting an exhibition.” One way to counter that problem she feels is cutting down on the frequency. “Perhaps an exhibition once in six months should do.” Frequent or not, Hyderabad seems to be just as enthusiastic.
