Train Dacoity Bid Foiled, 5 Nabbed

ROURKELA: A train dacoity attempt was foiled by a special squad of the Government Railway Police (GRP), Rourkela, on Saturday night.Five of the nine dacoits who had gathered at the Garposh railway station in adjacent Sambalpur district for the dacoity have been arrested.On a tip off, the GRP team proceeded in the Bilaspur-Tata passenger train and arrested them.GRP IIC Ajay Das said at Garposh station nine dacoits had boarded the train, but sensing trouble four of them managed to flee.Four live bullets, three sharp weapons, razors and chain cutters have been seized from their possession.Das said the arrested persons Kishore Rachuani (39), Sajan Agarwal (40), Iftikar Khan alias Chikna Raju and Giridhari Rout (50) were professional train dacoits, while Sankar Nag gave them shelter at his residence in Bamra.Investigation revealed that Kishore, a resident of Civil Township in Rourkela, was involved in a dozen criminal cases.He spent many years in jail on being convicted in a dacoity case and was released in 2008.The other three accused persons of Rourkela and Bhadrak also have several cases pending against them.They were produced in the court and sent to judicial remand on Sunday.
