Two arrested for robbery attempts

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Two men who attempted to steal in broad daylight were arrested by the police in various parts of the city on Saturday. 54-year-old Ummanan, who went around as a cancer patient seeking financial help, tried to snatch the gold necklace of a housewife in front of a flat near Medical College.Ummanan’s plans were foiled as the startled lady’s screams brought the neighbours out of their rooms. They nabbed the impostor and promptly reported to the police. Ummanan was produced before the court and later remanded in custody.37-year-old Sunil, who decamped from the Hantex House within the Trida Complex here on Saturday with Rs 450 and a lady’s bag, was nabbed by the Medical College police. Sunil came into the Hantex House posing as a customer. After searching about for the right material, he asked for a change of Rs 500. The salesman himself came to the counter to look for the change. There was only Rs 450 in the drawer. Sunil then asked for a towel. While the salesman went for the towel, Sunil mopped up the money in the drawer and a lady’s handbag kept near the counter and ran out. The shop soon informed the police. Sunil was arrested in an hour.
