Two persons held for online credit card fraud

HYDERABAD: Two persons who fraudulently made online transactions with credit cards of other customers were arrested by Central Crime Station sleuths on Sunday. According to police, the duo used to call up people randomly and collect credit card data of cardholders, their phone numbers and other personal details by posing as agents of banks. The arrested duo are V Raju, an unemployed person from BHEL and T Sunil Kumar, a worker in a travel agency at Chandanagar.
Another accused, Naveen is absconding. "Once they received the data, they created a fake email ID in name of the credit card holder and register the same on Ebay," deputy commissioner of police, detective department J Satyanarayana said. Before creating the ID, they change the card holder's phone number to their phone number by contacting the customer care of the bank by furnishing all details of the actual card holder. By misusing the above data, the fraudsters did online shopping. "While making online purchases, they give false delivery address and their phone number. Once the courier agent calls them for delivering the goods, they insist they come to their office to deliver. To get the goods, they prepared fake ration cards, voter ID cards and PAN cards in name of the actual card holder with help of Photoshop software on their laptop and by producing the same, they get the goods," Satyanarayana said.The arrested duo had also purchased several SIM cards with fake documents for committing the fraud. Police recovered credit card data, laptop, printercumscanner, fake PAN cards, voter ID cards from the accused. Property worth `2.50 lakh including 50 gm gold coins, a TV, mobile phone and `35,000 cash was also recovered.
