New Delhi: Bruna Abdullah, who is playing a lead in 'Grand Masti', says she waited to learn Hindi before signing up for prominent roles in Bollywood. The 26-year-old Arab Brazilian actress made her debut with a small role in "I Hate Luv Storys" but she bacame famous with her item number 'Subha Hone Na De' opposite John Abraham and Akshay Kumar in 'Desi Boyz'.
"I though it would be unfair to do Bollywood movies without learning Hindi language. There was a language barrier for me. In such a situation when you do a movie, you just be a prop on the side somewhere. So that is why I did not do any
movies for a while," Bruna told PTI.
'Grand Masti' is slated to hit theatres on September 13.
The actress is paired opposite Riteish Deshmukh in the sequel of the hit film 'Masti' and her character is on the same lines of Genelia D'Souza role in the 2004 film.
She had watched the previous film and was astonished to see how effortlessly Genelia, whom she met during the shoot, played a role which was contrary to her nature.
Bruna said Genelia helped her to get familiarised with Deshmukh and supported her during some scenes, which Bruna found difficult to perform.
"Genelia is such a cool girl. She used to come on sets with Riteish. Her role was so opposite to her nature," she said.
Bruna bagged the offer to star in the multi-starrer after going through an audition.
"It was really nice because usually you do not audition in Bollywood. You either know somebody or suggested by someone. So I was really excited that I actually had an audition," she said.
Asked if she is open for item numbers in the future, she said, "I have got some offers and if I like the song, I am definitely going to do it. I do not see a problem why I would not do it."
Abdullah is keen to make her way in Bollywood. She has already learnt Hindi. She is taking dancing classes too. Most of all she does not feel like an outsider anymore.
Apart from learning Hindi, Bruna is also taking lessons in Indian classical dance.
