VELLORE: Global Vision Cancer Care, an NGO in Bangalore, has donated `1lakh to 21-year-old Alka Tiwari, a girl from Uttar Pradesh, who is suffering from paroxysmal nocturnal haemoglobinuria, a rare disease.Born to a poor farmer’s family in Fatehpur, UP, Alka is the youngest in the family. Having spent `17 lakh plus to diagnose the disease, her brother Brajesh Tiwari, who is the sole bread-winner of the family is penniless. Her case came to light when Brajesh appealed for euthanasia. Union Health Ministry had earlier promised to help her treatment. AIIMS in Delhi had referred her to the CMCH in Vellore. “We need `25 lakh for the treatment. With `1 lakh, we are discussing whether to go ahead with treatment or not,” Brajesh said.
