New Delhi: Uttar Pradesh recorded maximum number of 8,358 cases related to atrocities on Scheduled Caste community in 2015 followed by Rajasthan and Bihar which registered 6,998 and 6,438 cases respectively, National Crime Records Bureau data released on Tuesday shows.
It shows there is a country-wide decrease of 4.4 per cent under crimes against Scheduled Castes which has reduced from 47,064 in 2014 to 45,003 cases in 2015, an official statement said.
The NCRB data shows that among Union Territories, national capital recorded maximum of number of cases in the category as it registered 54 cases in 2015 followed by five cases filed in Puducherry, Daman and Diu with two cases and Chandigarh with one case.
However, in terms of incidence of crime per one lakh of population of schedule caste in a state, Rajasthan leads the tally with the rate of 57.3, followed by Andhra Pradesh 52.3 while Uttar Pradesh is much behind at 20.2, NCRB said.
Crime rate under crimes against women, children, scheduled castes/scheduled tribes and senior citizens have been calculated on the basis of population of that particular segment, NCRB said.
The total number of crimes against Scheduled Caste recorded in states and Union Territories was 45,003 in 2015.
Andhra Pradesh recorded 4,415, Chhattisgarh recorded 1,028, Gujarat recorded 1,046, Karnataka recorded 1,987, Odisha recorded 2,305, Maharashtra recorded 1,816 cases, Telangana recorded 1,678, Tamil Nadu recorded 1,782 cases of atrocities on SC community during 2015, the data shows.
